"PK Smite."

<A ray of light hits the Titanic Ant from behind!>

<The Titanic Ant is defeated!>

*A cloaked figure steps out of the cave that the Ant was blocking*

"Hey! He was ours! Who the heck do you think you are?!"

"My identity is of no concern to you. I have gotten what I need here."

*The cloaked man walks past the group, then stops*

"I must warn you... You are treading on ice that grows ever thinner. Turn back now, and you will live peacefully on solid ground. However, continue to walk, and that fragile ice will break, dropping you into the frigid depths."

*He turns and looks at the group*

"Heed my words, children. PK Teleport."

*He teleports away*

"Uhh... wha' jus' happened? My mind went blank."

"We're... treading on thin ice? What does that mean?"

"Ah, who cares? Let's go! Giant Step must be just ahead!"

*Max runs ahead*

*A short distance ahead, the cave opens up to a large plateau overlooking Onett. A gigantic footprint is embedded into the ground*

"Oh, my... This is Giant Step?"

"I live so close, and I never knew this place was here..."

"I live in Fourside, and I have seen nothing as mystic and enigmatic as this..."

*Suddenly, a sound echoes across Giant Step*

"Take a melody..."

*An illusionary Ness appears at Giant Step. He waves at the group, then disappears*

"What... was that...?"

"I don't know either."

"Well, we're not getting anything done just standing around here! Let's go check out the next Sanctuary! It's near Twoson, right?"

"Yeah. Lilliput Steps, past Peaceful Rest Valley. There's a village about halfway between Twoson and the Sanctuary, so we can stop and rest there. But for now, we'd better catch the bus."

"All right. Let's head back to town and stock up."

*The four leave the cave and head into town. At an intersection, a teen with a shark-styled helmet nearly runs them down with a skateboard*

"Whoa!"

*They jump out of the way, and the kid skates off*

"Ugh... Those Neo-Sharks really get on my nerves, showboating like they own the town. We oughta teach 'em a lesson."

"As much as I'd like to agree, we don't have much time till the bus comes. Everyone go pack and stock up on supplies, and meet at the bus stop in twenty minutes."

*They all split up and stock up for their journey. Twenty minutes later, they regroup and board the bus*

"The first thing we should do when we get to Twoson is find Polestar Preschool. That's where Ness met his first teammate, Paula. If we're lucky, we might even get to talk to Paula herself."

*Time passes, and the four get off the bus at Twoson and go to Polestar Preschool. A smiling blonde-haired woman greets them at the door*

"I've been waiting for you four. Please, come in."

*The woman leads the four through the preschool into a house built into the back of the building. She gestures for the four to sit at the table, then brings out a tea kettle and five cups. She pours tea for everyone and sits down*

"I had a dream that four PSI-users would come to me for advice. I assume you are those four?"

"Y-yes... And y-you're...?"

"Paula Polestar."

*Paula clears her throat*

"I mean, Paula Franklin. I can't quite get used to using Ness' last name"

(Funny side note: Today is the 20th anniversary of Earthbound's North American release! Today is the day that our four heroes begin their journey! LOL)

"Ness's last name? You mean..."

"Yes. We've been married for three years now. And we're expecting our first child."

*Paula rests a hand on her stomach*

"Oh, congratulations!"

"Thank you, but you didn't all come here to talk about me. What do you need?"

"We're traveling to all of the Sanctuaries. We've already visited Giant Step, and we're headed to Lilliput Steps next."

*Max sips his tea*

"I've heard that Peaceful Rest Valley is dangerous. We couldn't ask you to come with us, but could you tell us what to expect there?"

"Of course. I'd hate to see any of you get hurt. Let's see..."

*Paula closes her eyes*

"There are robots there. Li'l UFOs and Spinning Robos. Their lasers really hurt, and they have something called a Cold Beam. Try not to get hit by either of them."

*Donna writes down Paula's advice in a notebook*

"What else, what else... Ah, there are also walking plants. The Mobile Sprouts aren't much of a threat, but they can drain your PSI energy and sprout more of themselves."

"Mobile Sprouts... Got it."

"Oh! One more thing. Some of the trees are Territorial Oaks. They can use Brainshock and drain your strength, and when they're defeated, they explode. Stay well away from Territorial Oaks."

"Thank you, Paula- er, Mrs. Franklin."

*Paula smiles*

"Please, call me Paula. Oh, and before you leave, I'd like to give you all something."

*She takes four small rocks out of her pocket. She focuses her PSI, and the rocks glow for a moment*

"These stones are charged with PSI energy. As long as you hold them, your PSI will grow at a faster rate than normal. I'm interested in seeing the limits of your PSI. I wonder if you could surpass me and Ness..."

*She hands each of the four a stone*

"Thank you, Paula. We'll come back and visit after we reach the Sanctuary."

"Good luck, everyone!"

*Paula waves as the four set out to Peaceful Rest Valley*

*The four pass by the Chaos Theater as they head to Peaceful Rest Valley. Max looks at the marquee*

"Oh, hey! The Runaway Five are having a reunion tour! We should see 'em sometime."

*They continue on to Peaceful Rest Valley. When they get there, they see that the bridge is out*

"Ugh. Looks like we'll have to go around."

*They head north for a bit, and get jumped by a Li'l UFO*

"Watch it!"

<Max equips his Slingshot!>

<Max shoots a pellet at the Li'l UFO!>

<...But it missed!>

"Oh, for... Get outta the way, Max. I'll handle this."

<Adam equips his Dart Gun!>

<Adam shoots a dart at the Li'l UFO!>

<Just missed!>

"Augh!"
